About us

Mavis Technologies designs and manufactures AI-powered smart glasses, Mavis Viaro and Mavis Itero, that help blind and visually impaired people read, recognise their surroundings and live more independently. We build our products in our own facility at Vulcan Works, Northampton.

The role

We are growing our production team and looking for a second electronics technician to work alongside our existing technician. You will run our SMT line, carry out fine hand soldering and rework, help assemble the smart glasses, and flash and test boards and finished units. This is a hands-on role in a small team where you will see your work go all the way to the people who use it.

What you will do

SMT and PCB assembly

  • Set up and run our SMT line: solder paste printing, pick-and-place, reflow
  • Load feeders, prepare stencils and support product changeovers
  • Inspect boards visually and under magnification, and rework defects

Hand soldering and rework

  • Carry out fine-pitch hand soldering of SMT and through-hole components
  • Rework and repair PCBs, including small connectors and fine wiring
  • Work to ESD-safe practices at all times

Product assembly

  • Assemble electronic and electro-mechanical sub-assemblies into finished smart glasses
  • Fit and connect boards, cameras, batteries, flex cables and other components into frames
  • Follow build instructions and help improve them

Firmware loading and testing

  • Flash firmware onto boards and finished units
  • Run functional tests and record results
  • Help the engineering team identify and report faults
  • Support basic fault-finding with multimeters and oscilloscopes

What we are looking for

  • Experience in electronics manufacturing or PCB assembly
  • Confident, neat hand soldering of small SMT components
  • Experience operating SMT equipment, or a strong willingness to learn
  • Able to read assembly drawings, build instructions and basic circuit diagrams
  • Familiar with test equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes
  • Good attention to detail and comfortable with repetitive, precise work
  • Happy to work across SMT, soldering, assembly and testing as production needs change

Nice to have

  • IPC-A-610 or IPC J-STD-001 certification
  • Experience setting up SMT machines or programming placement
  • Experience flashing firmware or using test jigs and scripts
  • Background in consumer electronics, wearables or medical devices
  • An electronics qualification (BTEC, HNC, apprenticeship) or equivalent experience

What we offer

  • Training on our SMT line and product test processes
  • 28 days holiday including bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time)
  • Workplace pension
  • The chance to build products that make a real difference to blind and visually impaired people

Location and eligibility

On-site at Vulcan Works, Northampton. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship.
